FROM A REMOTE AREA ON COAST...
Ran errands in the early morning today then left Capay for Napa valley. It's been a great day...one of the best so far. Stopped at the tasting room at OPUS ONE that cost $23million to build. Then went into Sonoma County where I toured Helena Calistoga and got a bottle of water (but no bath) in their hotsprings. Went to Sonoma Lake which was new to me--fantastic. Drove high up mountain to cross and found a road that went west toward the coast. Amazing switchbacks up, down, and up again. Top speed was about 35 and in 2 hours time saw only 4 cars. Pretty isolated and quite beautiful. As I approached the coast about 9:15 it started to get dark, and all I could see was a light blue-pink redish haze as if I were driving in a tunnel flanked by Redwoods on both sides. Got to the coast for sunset, but too dark for pictures without flash. Turned south for about 20 minutes going down the coast. By 10:15 very dark; saw campsite sign and pulled in. It was a road that went down to a bluff where I saw a couple of tents and another rv parked. Sleeping here tonight. This was a really good day!
