MOTO GP Indy
Lousy weather could have ruined Sunday's first Red Bull Indianapolis GP were it not for MotoGP's superstar.
Valentino Rossi turned a windy, rainy race shortened by eight laps into another memorable moment for tradition-rich Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He won his 69th MotoGP race, becoming the series' record setter.
An announced crowd of 91,064 saw Rossi surpass fellow Italian legend Giacomo Agostini for most MotoGP victories. It was also Rossi's fourth victory in a row and seventh this year
Rossi is almost assured of a sixth world title. He expanded his lead to 87 points on Stoner, the reigning world champion, with four races remaining. Rossi could clinch two weeks from now in Japan, where he last secured a MotoGP world championship in 2005.
Sunday's celebration had one somber footnote -- Rossi dedicated the victory to his grandfather, Dario, who died earlier in the day at the age of 82
