PICK-PICK-PICK time

The picking begins in darkness; lighted trailers guide the work.

Daylight reveals much progress. The tractors have been driving down the rows; workers pick 4 rows at a time and slowly fill hand bins that are then dumped into a larger container on a trailer. First night's pick (white grapes Viognier only) produced 17 bins of 1,000 lbs. each or 8 1/2 tons.

Filled bins on the move
The full bins will be loaded onto the flatbed and hauled to a Napa Valley winery where the grapes will be crushed and held in storage containers for fermenting.
